After seven years at Total Image Group, David Huxley knows a thing or two about creating quality teamwear. After a decade-long professional football career in the National Soccer League and National Premier League, David definitely knows a thing or two about wearing quality teamwear.
When you’re helping to create innovative new looks for clubs great and small, it helps to have firsthand insight into the difference that a truly great kit can make on a team performance & psyche.
We’re excited to introduce David, our resident Teamwear Expert and former Wollongong Wolves legend, to tell you about his football career, his passion for sport and the unique way it informs his uniform expertise today.
Where did your love for football begin?
“I started playing at four years of age for Panania RSL soccer club, in South-West Sydney.”
Tell us more about your professional football career.
“I signed my first semi-pro contract at age 16 for Parramatta Melita Eagles, where I played for around 8 seasons. From there, I moved up to the NSL on a contract with the Wollongong Wolves, where I played close to 170 first-grade games over the course of 7 years. From the Wolves, I moved to Sydney United, where I played 2 more seasons in the NSL, before it was changed to the A-League. I then played 3 more seasons in the NPL with the Sutherland Sharks, which is where I ended my professional career. I haven’t hung up my boots yet though – I’m still running around in an over-35’s comp in the Bankstown area.”

What was your greatest career highlight?
“I have been really lucky and played in a few Premiership-winning teams, but probably the biggest highlight was winning back-to-back NSL titles in the 99/00 and 00/01 seasons. That’s something that only a few teams ever get to achieve.”

You’re still playing football now. What keeps you coming back every year?
“Still playing in the O/35’s for Milperra Lions! Every year I say it’s going to be my last due to all the aches and pains after each game, but I just love the game, I love the friendships I’ve made through the game, and I enjoy the social aspect.”
With your years of playing on the field and all your experience working in uniforms, you must have a strong understanding of what makes great teamwear. What are your recommendations to create a winning look at any level?
“I’ve had my experience with really great strips, and really awful ones as well! Luckily, these days the fabric and technology has improved dramatically with teamwear. My suggestion is not to complicate it too much. Plenty of people get intimidated or scared when they’re given the task of looking after uniforms – but that’s why we’re here. Let us take away the pain and hassle and design a winning range for the club. ”
